Gift Cards -- My Cup of Holiday Tea

A lot of people hate gift cards. They say they are so impersonal and impractical. I think that those people should be forced to endure a world where all they get each Christmas is fruitcake.

Gift cards are exactly what everyone wants this Christmas. It requires very little stress and strain on the part of the gift giver. You simply think about the person that you are buying for and BOOM, instant present.

Are they into tech? - Best Buy
Are they into books? -Barnes and Noble or Borders
Are they into caffeine - Starbucks gift card.
Are they into fat, greasy food? - McDonald's "arch card" (give the gift of a heart attack).

Once I get a gift card, I usually spend mine in a week. Why wait? I don't really understand those people that sit on their gift cards like they are going to appreciate in value. In fact, if you take the time to read the small print (Which I just did for you) you will see that after 6 months, you get a sort of "late fee" for not spending the money which usually amounts to a few percent off the face value of your card.

It just makes so much sense to give gift cards. Think about all those stupid presents you just found hanging around under your tree. I'm sure that now they are cool, but a few months from now (much like your New Year's resolutions) they will be hanging out in your storage closet wondering why they were even assembled in China in the first place. Next stop, garage sale world.

Me, I'll be cashing in my gift cards later this week. Time to pick up some music, some coffee, and probably some tech.
