Little Miss Sunshine

Amid all the Oscar buzz, I had forgotten about "Little Miss Sunshine" until Dr. Sue reminded me.

I once entertained aspirations of directing/writing an independant film. "Little Miss Sunshine" is very close to the kind of "feel" that I wanted to get out of my "dream movie" that was sadly never made.

Where was I?

"Little Miss Sunshine" tells the story of a family that is involved in their own internal crises which is leading to the breakup of the family unit as a whole. The roles are masterfully played by an impressive lineup of actors (notably Steve Carell and Alan Arkin).

Far from being a traditional family travel movie ala Chevy Chase, "Sunshine" is a funny, yet surprisingly real look at the success and failures of families.

I'd definitely recommend this one for anyone. You will see something of your life in each of these characters. With the success of this movie, I think that the true "independent spirit" has been put back into indie films.

I think you have your daughter on the brain. You wrote "Lilly" Miss Sunshine twice.

We liked this movie too. I really liked the family interactions. The father was insufferable, but I especially loved the grandfather and the teenaged son. It was also nice to see Steve Carell in a more serious, not over the top role, a loa the 40 year old virgin.
